Too Tall by xiaoshan-angel
At 1.61m (5'3"), give or take a few cm, she is drawn too tall here.

This may be my first post in this journal, but I cannot help but get this off my chest.

During figure drawing class yesterday morning, one of the professors pointed out a problem regarding my sketches, and that is, legs are drawn too long, when the model is not very tall! I suspected that could be due to the 8-heads rule. And, turns out, stubbornly sticking to that rule can backfire on you, especially when the person/character/model you are drawing is short in stature. Even so, I was told that the so-called 8-heads rule is a "superhero proportion."

I know very well not to use the 8-heads rule when drawing toddlers and children, but things get murky when it comes to adults due to varying heights. Now I see myself deconstructing photographs of people (real or fictional) in terms of heads, myself included.

Lesson learnt: Don't blindly follow the 8-heads rule, unless the person/character/model is that tall. Definitely should not use on someone who is about my height, male or female!

EDIT: For someone who is about my height (161 cm, give or take a few cm), regardless of gender, eight heads is a huge no-no indeed. Go for 6.5 or 7 heads instead.
